— Shannon
Flash Fiction chosen by Emily Clayton.
“There Are No Women In Our House” by Iskandar Haggarty via Ad Hoc Fiction
This one has stunning imagery. Intense and eye-catching. The word choice and the rhythm just make your eyes skip across and down the page in delight. Distressing, yet deliciously dark.
“Alice’s Atlas” by Christina Dalcher via Maudlin House
The title makes you think one thing. When you begin reading, though, an entirely new world opens. The emotions are powerful, and the story line races along, giving you just enough time to laugh or cry. Everything, it seems, has a story to tell.
“Next to Cleanliness” by Al Kratz via Spelk
Powerful story. Intense characters. This one just pops right off the screen. The names are one thing, but the way they are woven into the tale in a fresh way, and used to reveal something different, takes skill.
“The Waitress” by Davey Guardado via 365 tomorrows
A sci-fi tale with heart. You are drawn into a shifting world, and you don’t know what to make of it. Why indeed is that waitress so special? The ending shifts and smacks you in the face. Sad, so very sad.
Wow, thanks so much!
Good reading today – thanks for four intriguing choices.
Oh! A writing friend just alerted me to this. Thanks so much for mentioning “Alice’s Atlas.” Much appreciated!
