I was a shadow, silent and unseen. I crept through the darkness, knowing the consequences of being discovered. I had to put as much distance as I could between me and them before dawn.
I moved swiftly, trying not to make a sound. I felt sick, running away instead of fighting, but this was not a battle to be won. Once I was a safe distance away, I unveiled my dark secret: a pair of sleek, black wings fused to my back. They were tense, as if eager to fly.
I took off silently into the night. I was finally free.
