Floating

November 9, 2024 8 Comments

By Kelly McSherry

A chorus of delicate chirping permeates the air. The grandmother rests upon a lime-green inner tube, allowing the water to lap soothingly at her feet. Warmth envelopes her skin in the blissful embrace of a Sunday afternoon.

Pool days were always better with her husband. She reminisces about drinking sugary lemonade and enduring his childish antics. What she would give to be doused in a teasing splash of chlorinated blue one last time.

Now, as she lounges in their pool alone, she wonders what it will be like when they see each other again.

Perhaps it will feel like floating.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Beautiful. Sad, but happy. Melancholy, I guess.

I think most of us would like just one more time, one more day, one more hour. And it’s rare that we get it. Treasure the present.

Beautifully stated – something we will all face one day.
