For a Little While

For a Little While

By Jon Nixon

Swooping majestically through the sky—arcing, twisting, and reaching—he was mastering what every boy before him had wished for; what other men had attempted but could not perfect.

The air rushed past his outstretched arms: fists clenched, cheeks hollowed, increasing speed. It was the ultimate superpower.

Adrenaline rush dominated, and yet he remained ice-calm watching the kaleidoscopic blur of glimpsed outlines, glinting objects, buildings, and sky.

This was it. Flight, the ultimate thrill. He had it all.

The window of the 27th floor of the downtown office block remained wide open. The ground rose to meet him, hard and fast.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Didn’t expect the ending and hope that anyone who chooses this would experience those last moments of joy

Ditto the above. I thought this person was undergoing the thrill of hang-gliding, or bungie-jumping, but it was something a lot worse! Good story!

‘Funny how falling feels like flying, for a little while’

Reminded me of Ducky and Petrie in Land Before Time, Petrie says, “I flied”, Ducky says, “no you falled”.
