For Class Credit

April 30, 2023 3 Comments

By DeRicki Johnson

I was top of my chemistry class and had seen every episode of Breaking Bad. How hard could it be to operate a meth lab?

I soon got my answer.

My pant leg was on fire. I patted it furiously and watched in horror as fire from the explosion spread to neighboring houses. I had no inkling how bad this would become.

This definitely violated the Burn Ban invoked after our town’s long hot dry spell.

By the second day, low water pressure undermined the fire department’s valiant but doomed efforts to combat the city-wide fire. My jail cell’s getting hot.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

This is a very good story. I thought the ending was a bit of rough justice too.
