Fourteen years represent time interpreted as units of distance from here to a place that doesn’t exist anymore. Fourteen years equal the house my grandfather built, with its three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and a hallway with the kitchen and dining on one end and the backyard on the other end. Fourteen steps to prepare arroz con pollo.
The secret is in the butter, garlic, and Knorr Suiza. The smell fills the house and triggers a memory I can sense from here. Right now.
Fourteen years symbolize seven nouns: Puente. Rio. Domingo. Border. Matamoros. Amigoland. Brownsville.
These seven words represent nostalgia.
I can smell the chicken and rice too!
Childhood memories are always the most vivid. Good story, Hugo.
Hugo,
