He had beaten her with his belt today; then slapped and kicked her till she had almost stopped breathing.
She’d had enough; today, she planned to run away.
He was in the other room, drinking and cursing. Scrambling to the open window, Radha got out.
Then—she ran.
Bare feet hitting the cold tarmac.
Suddenly, her cotton saree caught in her feet. She stumbled, her head hitting the sidewalk.
She couldn’t move!
Then, light as air, she got up. Glancing back at her body, sprawled across the sidewalk, she smiled.
She was free at last, he could never hurt her now!
Awesome..is an understatement! Keep it up sis 🙂
Thankyou sagedanish. I’m glad you liked it.
Wow. This story movingly captures the tragedy of violence against womn worldwide.
Thankyou! I write what I see around me. Violence against women being the most common. Sad but true.
So moving Firdaus. You speak for many women who experience abuse. Thus is beautifully written!
Thankyou Rebecca. For a second there I wished I’d written a positive ending. But the truth is bitter.
I think the hard hitting reality of abuse and violence is something that’s too often shied away from.
I have worked with women and children affected by domestic abuse. I have seen the damage that comes from living in such an environment.
It’s actually a refreshing change to see it there in black and white. For once, not prettied up and made more palatable. But a story that tells of the real fear and risks taken.
Thank you Firdaus.
You’re welcome Rebecca!
