Fury

By Simon Hole

She waltzed in, shifty eyes scanning the joint till she found me. A true actress, shifty transformed into wide-eyed innocence, like she hadn’t been searching for me these past six years.

I gave her the once over and said, “You look good, Nina.” And she did. She’d followed me across three star systems and looked exactly as she had that night on Traxton Four: flowing blonde hair, crimson lips, curves in all the right places. And those dark eyes, those slightly maniacal dark eyes.

“You should’ve called,” she said, pulling a needle gun from her purse. “You really should have called.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

A good old science fiction murder story–love it, Simon! Nice, twist/unexpected ending, too.

I know, right? Was it a one night stand or did they have a longer relationship? Has he been running from a crazy lady all these years, or is he just afraid of making a commitment? I love writing these 101 word stories, but the characters keep telling me to give more backstory which of course makes for a much longer piece of writing. Example The Meal (https://101words.org/the-meal/) became Last Meal (http://www.theflashfictionpress.org/2016/07/05/last-meal/).

Fun to read. I love that you made it a space story and placed revenge in it.
