Future Imperfect

Future imperfect

By Marj

“You know why I’m here?” he asked, closing the door behind him so she couldn’t get out.

“Of course. I saw it would happen today,” she said.

Guiding him into the front room, she offered him a choice of seats.

“Now, young man, what do you need?” she asked, sitting down on the sofa.

“I know that you see things, things far in the future. You are not allowed to do this,” he replied as he fumbled deep in his pocket for her death warrant.

“Yes, but I can’t help it. I’m ready.”

Her calm reply threw him.

She died, smiling.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Ouch! I’ll bet that hurt. Terrific twist (kind of) ending. Liked it.

Nice piece of work. I foretell a much better future for you if you keep up this kind of storytelling.

Gosh. Thanks! Wouldn’t have been quite like this without a little help from the 101 editor, Anushree.

Eiry, loved it, especially when she asked, What do you want. Reminded me of a super novel where death keeps visiting a man and having a cup of tea with him.

It is an honest description of exchange between two individuals destined to act as they do.
