Bion Abbott hired extras from the Planned Friends Acting Agency to hold an outdoor memorial service in his honor, since he had no real friends himself. With the extras seated in white folding chairs, Bion silently wept from the back row as two violinists and a cellist performed Canon in D Major by Pachelbel, a melody usually performed at weddings; but since Bion never got married, he was killing two birds with one stone. The ‘minister’ eulogized Bion as a pillar of the community, a friend to the downtrodden. After the service, everyone acted shocked when Bion blew his brains out.

I am left pondering the ending: did the mourners pretended shock because they knew Bion would do this or were they merely doing their job and this blowing out of brain was considered part of the show or were they such self-absorbed actors they were only focusing on doing their part? Part of me wants to know. Part me just enjoys this story.

Wow! Having done some background work myself (two mourners so far), i can picture the whole thing. The actors are definitely into their work, portraying bereavement, and have no idea what else is going on. Pretty far-fetched but I loved it.
