The alarm on the car belonging to the woman in 5D was blaring yet again.
Sharon squeezed a pillow around her head.
Lying in bed, she imagined raining cinderblocks from her window, their weight obliterating the hood. She fantasized about slicing the brake lines and sending the offending automobile sliding silently into the Hudson.
In the morning, bleary-eyed, she rode the elevator down, lurching to a stop on the fifth floor.
“Oh, good morning, dear,” said the woman from 5D, adjusting her hearing aid as she stepped in. “How are you?”
“Quite well, actually.”
Then they rode together in blissful silence.
Car Alarms are the Devil. I remember reporting one to the police and they did nothing. Local residents who had been listening to it all night expressed their feelings by throwing eggs at it.
This story shows a saintly forbearance the rest of us can only dream about!
A little imagination goes a long way…loved your little tale… sweet ending… kudos …
A natural flow to your writing. A sweet story and respectful to both characters. I feel I’d like to have known how Sharon felt about the encounter, but based on the earlier development I can guess. Nice work, keep it up.
