God Made Her

God Made Her

By Syl Gamble

She stared at the image before her, pondering what the artist was envisioning when he made it. “The hips are completely disproportionate,” she thought. Her deep brown eyes traced every outline of the figure, stopping at every pucker and roll to give a look of disapproval.

“Aren’t artists supposed to create beautiful images that people want to see?” she wondered. Her eyebrows furrowed when she gazed upon a large birthmark on the woman’s neck. “How unfortunate,” she whispered to herself. A few seconds passed and she decided that she couldn’t look any longer. She turned from the mirror, crying.

God frowns.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Yes, as above, a very good story. I looked back at the title and it all made sense. Really clever and well crafted. I love that the title is the give away, but it doesn’t actually give it away in advance. Well it made me think I just wasn’t observant enough.

Sylvia – creating a complete story within the confines of just 101 words, that elicits such a strong emotion is simply outstanding… you are talented in so many ways. Keep stretching out in new directions. Dad.

Wow! You truly have a gift. I wanted to apologize again for my remark a while ago. You are a wonderful person and I pray that You fulfill all God has for you. I felt called to make this right again and I know that you may never forgive me or perhaps you don’t remember but I still feel like I need to clear my conscience. It is never acceptable to say something like that about a person… but I hope you know that it was never my intention to hurt you… it was a screwed up and bizarre way for me to express my feelings about you. While this was so long ago I still feel horrible about what I said. Honestly, I was young, jealous, and in “love.” Please forgive me.

Hope our paths one day cross again.
