Greener Pastures

June 29, 2026 3 Comments

By Raymond Sloan

In four years the Smiths have moved twelve times, and each time Helen insists on a lawn. She never intended on gardening; Paul drove her to it.

In their first home, their forever home, Paul’s toxic mood smothered her. Now they never stay in one place too long.

Helen’s rule—up sticks before becoming stuck. So, when pesky neighbours persist with “get to know you” chit chat, she blows town.

She’ll bide her time for the perfect night, and at its darkest she’ll knee the dirt, bag up the scraps of Paul, and head off once more to plant new roots.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
