Brenda adjusted the silver curls in Mrs. Ferguson’s hairdo, stepped back to admire her work, and gave a thumbs up to the quiet, elderly woman.
Putting away her brush and scissors, Brenda recalled when she knew her career choice had been an utter mistake. Just a few months in, she grew to detest the banal customer chit chat, the feel of washing strange scalps, the unrealistic expectations of those who equated haircuts with miracles. But poor decision or not, the monthly bills kept coming.
“Looking good,” Brenda said, checking Mrs. Ferguson one last time as she stepped away from the coffin.
This is really nice. I relate to Brenda, and I liked being surprised by the last line. Thanks.
Thank you. I really appreciate the feedback as this is my first story.

Thank you. I really appreciate the feedback on this, my first story.
I could almost see Brenda, a mousy, quiet type: she found her place. We’ll done.
Well. Dang auto type.
Thanks for the feedback on my first story.
Wow! One of the best surprise endings I’ve seen in a long time. This is a winner!
Thanks so much for this feedback on my first story.
I agree. Great feeling for each character including the dead.
