Hairy Petunia

December 16, 2017 7 Comments

Hairy Petunia

By Lisa Reily

Petunia had hidden her hairy legs and flat chest ever since she was a teenager. She had always looked like a man and could never compete with her blonde, ivory-smooth sister Helene.

So when Helene booked a surprise cruise for Petunia’s fortieth, Petunia decided it was time to let go. With topless sunbathing allowed, there was nothing stopping her.

“What are you doing?” spat Helene at the sight of Petunia’s absent cleavage and bushy exterior. “This isn’t you!”

But it was. It was all Petunia. The self she had been hiding her whole life.

It was Helene’s turn to be surprised.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

BTW, that ‘?’ above was actually a smiley, but somehow it didn’t work. Thanks again, Ion!

Terrific work. I picked up a transsexual undertone, and that’s a real surprise.

Thanks, Glenn, for your comment! As for the undertones, I was leaving the surprise up to the reader’s imagination. 🙂
