Stephanie’s kitchen was small, dingy, poorly lit, and the full bin made her stomach lurch. She grabbed the sink to steady herself.
The sound of bare feet on tile made her look down.
Mistake.
She grabbed the edge of the filthy sink tighter, and snatched her gaze back to eye-level.
Stephanie had noticed she was naked. She puzzled over that.
Suddenly she pulled a bowl and spoon out of the sink, flicked them into the drainer with the clean dishes, and emptied her stomach.
“Ma, can we get ready for school now ‘Uncle’ has gone?”
Her eldest was picking up sarcasm.
Superb final line.
A perfect look at some woman’s hellishly “bad hair” day. Very realistic.
Good ending! Nice work!
