The little cake on the kitchen table was big enough to cut in two to share. There was a single lit candle on it and I watched as the flame danced and provided the only light in the room.
‘Here’s to another year my love’, I announced too loudly as I toasted with my large red wine. No one toasted me back. It wasn’t just another year, it was the third year I had toasted our anniversary alone. Draining my glass, I ate my half in one go, as you used to, and climbed the stairs to sleep away my grief.
This is so sad, Jenny. Good story! 🙂
Thank you!
So sad, Jenny. I like the story and could feel her grief. 🙂
I would have eaten both halves.
Moving story. Nicely done.
Thank you!
