Haunted Caress

Haunted Caress

By Stephen Lodge

On cool, marble stone I stand awaiting sunset. The sun’s feeble rays are cruel upon my skin. Once it is dark my misery will cease and I can hunt the prey I crave.

Wolves howl in the forests; I sense their uneasy agitation. Nightfall takes me by the hand and leads me to the graveyard. Come, Countess of the dark, hold me in your haunted caress, your vice-like embrace, and feast again on my neck.

Nightmares are then ushered from my mind and I can seek what I crave for each night. A packet of chocolate biscuits from the village shop.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Ah, well; we can’t all be seduced by vampires–thank goodness! Good story.
