Haunted

August 15, 2022 5 Comments

By Erik Bergholm

I’ve noticed a faint singing from the walls where your work desk used to be, and wake on the couch some nights to find the cats scratching intently in that corner of the living room, their eyes luminous in the dark. It’s your voice, the melody mingling strangely with the rhythmic peeping of the frogs deep in the woods.

We used to joke that the house was haunted; I grieved you leaving like it was your death, so maybe it really is now.

But as I stare at that spot, I wonder: are you the one haunting it, or am I?

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Superb read. A haunting little read that leaves questions where imagination comes into play

Pretty cool. The ending left me wonder whether or not the woman committed suicide.

Fantastic story! I read this again and realised that it does tell two potential stories. Superbly done 🙂
