What I meant to say still haunts me. It clung to my tongue, locked behind foolish pride, while her eyes thundered with hurt. The café rattled with spoons, rain whispered on glass, yet silence carved its ghost between us.
I should have said, “Please stay,” or “I was wrong.” Words simple enough to save us.
Instead, I let her leave, her coat unfurling like a dark sail. Now the empty chair haunts me, perfumed and spectral, a reminder of absence. Every echo, the clink of a cup, the hush of rain, summons the ghost of my silence, louder than any words.
