The interviewer nodded and made a note on her computer. “Most women are looking for handsome and rich,” she said. “Intelligent could mean nerdish, socially backward…”
“This will define him: He must have read William Morris’s News From Nowhere and be eager to discuss it.”
“How will we describe you?”
Naomi handed the interviewer a paper with one word.
“Corneous,” the interviewer read aloud. “What’s that?”
Naomi stood and handed the interviewer a check for the first month. She stopped at the door. “Or he needn’t apply.”
