Her Hands

January 3, 2018 13 Comments

Her Hands

By Glenn Bowman

Knitting gloves, scarfs, and baby shoes for many years, her slender fingers look their best by the fire in the evening, with a glass of Claret, and wearing the ruby ring I found at a Burmese jewelry shop in Singapore.

I’ll never forget the day, waving our passports like flags, and dashing through customs to catch the next Siberian Airlines flight to another continent. We traveled the world as carefree young lovers, and time was our portal to far horizons.

Today I kissed her folded hands at rest and placed our travel-worn flight plans by a tall slab of white granite.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Ooh tugs at the heartstrings, Glenn. I love the image of the hands it captures the essence of the stillness of death. Great stuff.

Thanks for your feedback, Hazel. For me, a woman’s hands express what’s living in her soul.

Great evocative story. I prefer such to the usual punchline twist ending. Jerry

Thank you, Joy. I put myself at the gateway when our flight was announced; a flying boat from another era.
