His 50th

His 50th

By Philip Scholz

“Surprise!” everyone chorused. “Happy Birthday!”

Surprised, he made his rounds, greeting his guests. Everyone was having a good time.

She watched him mingle for a few minutes. She then cast a brief glance towards his cake in the kitchen. She was sure no one had seen her in there earlier.

Soon, he’d take a bite and, seconds later, he’d be sprawled out on the floor, gasping his last breaths.

Yes, people would try to help, but it would be too late. She’d chosen a fast-acting poison.

That’d be his surprise for leaving her to reconcile with his wife. Happy 50th Birthday.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
