Land for Sale said the sign as Kieran drove past. He could see the luscious hills were draped in the color of death from meeting the burning glow of the blazes. Kieran knew that his house would have succumbed to the flare of this masterpiece.
Another Land for Sale.
There were dead trees, empty plots, vacant driveways, and no moving cars except for Kieran’s. He could still smell the burning wood. His house was almost gone, a melted, charred shell remaining.
Land for Sale.
The burning glow made sure of that. Kieran still saw the scorch marks in his dead grass.
Feels like California to me. Great story.
I love the intensity of your contrasting imagry–” luscious hills” “draped in the color of death”. It makes me feel both the beauty of what the picture of home should be and the reality of what is the “flare of this masterpiece”.
I can feel the anguish of the narrator. You constructed such a clear and tragic picture.
