Home? This boat was Jude’s home—surviving on an ancient trawler twenty-five days a month, scouring the depths of the ocean and claiming anything that was foolish enough to latch onto his bait. Land was respite, transient, always abandoned with the trawler’s next departure.
Home is the hundred-square-foot crew cabin. Four bunks and portholes. Stale and worn from use. Everything he owns secured under his bunk in a locker; a handful of items stuffed in a duffel for shore leave.
So why then, when he saw the towering wave that would splinter his ramshackle boat, did Jude wish to be home?
Great story. Could visualize from the get go.
This is really beautiful, I loved the descriptions.
