Nothing is free unless you give it away.
A truck flashed by the curb on which Mara posed. She supposed she was as free as the crap people stowed at the end of their driveways, too shiny to throw out, but too used to keep.
She hooked her thumbs through the loops in her mini-skirt and thrust out her hips. When a man drove by and honked long and loud, she didn’t even flick a glance his way. She stared straight ahead at the traffic lights going green.
When a car slowed down and pulled to a stop, she didn’t run.
Nicely done; I could almost FEEL Mara’s inner turmoil and dissatisfaction with her life. But, since she didn’t run, perhaps she enjoys her life!
