Screams echoed in her ears, suffocating her until she could hardly breathe, drowning her in a sea of anger, fear, and sorrow. Ta couldn’t breathe, couldn’t do anything but lie trapped beneath the smoldering timbers of the elephant sanctuary she had built. She struggled to free herself, pain forcing her to stop. I’m dying, Ta thought. The light faded and the screams sounded distant, like she was floating away. A shout pierced the haze.
“Tabithia!” Her sister and co-sanctuary leader screamed.
The darkness disappeared from her vision, and a simple sentence entered her mind, You’re not finished.
She wanted to live.
I love the positivity of this ending!
C’mon. What kind of story is that? I’m inventing a new word: “borro.”
