By Denise Bayes
She unwraps the bag concealed beneath carrot batons and broccoli florets. Reveals the tiny crimson rocket.
On the board, she chops the chili into flame red fragments. The tip of the steel blade moves in furious motion. She pauses, knife raised.
Listens.
His key turns in the lock. Her heartbeat quickens. She plunges her fingers among the scarlet shards, tips smeared with volcanic heat.
His arms clamp around her waist. Whisky-drenched breath grazes her neck. She swallows the instinct to push him away. Twists towards him. As he forces unforgiving lips on hers, she strokes molten fingertips across his closed eyelids.
Great twist at the end (not the knife, as I was anticipating).
A tasty, unexpected ending.
Culinary revenge! Thanks, Denise. I enjoyed this piece.
Liked that.
