When Word came, the Rennalinkas did not screech like the Baboons, nor scoff like Man. Instead, they sat back on their prehensile tails, gathered in a circle. “Who shall go to Noah?” their leader asked. Eventually, the two oldest children, just shy of mating age, were chosen.
But it was all for naught, for the children ran from the Ark, reaching home just as the waters were rising.
“Why?’ their leader cried.
“We could not leave you,” the male child answered.
“But what will become of us now?”
The female said, “Whatever is next, Father.” And then the waters engulfed them.
