Huntress

Huntress

By Xenia King

A gurgled roar bellowed from a distance. Grey fumes grew more vivid.

The huntress rose from her crouch, rearranged her weapons and set off running.

She moved swiftly, dodging stray branches and chipped trunks. She followed the tracks of the creature, making sure she made none.

A few more turns and twists, she came to a halt near a clearing. In the middle, stood a large beast surrounded by fire. It had horns of a bull and the body was of a disfigured dragon.

It was a sight to behold.

“I found you.”

Taking one silver arrowhead, she aimed and fired.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Very vivid imagery…like a video game scene.
Maybe, “With a silver-tipped arrow she aimed and fired”…? or was the arrowhead magical? But, I’m not a “gamer” so maybe I’m just too literal.
