Her husband was due for a tune-up. He had begun snoring, keeping her up. She was reluctant to make the appointment, knowing his return was not inevitable.
She consulted her best friend, who said, “What’s the difference? Maybe you’ll get a better one.”
“But I like this one. He’s a good fit. And he does housework.”
“What about the rest?” asked her friend.
“Oh, I don’t care about that. Even though they’ll think I do.”
“Just tell them to tweak his nose.”
“Maybe I’ll keep him. As long as he lasts. Like the old days when they got sick and died.”
