I Remember

I Remember

By Gary Davison

He was stooped with age, dark eyes, and a familiar face wearing a
lost sheep look.

I caught his glance, and nodded…an old friend for sure.

“Dinner’s ready,” a nurse says touching my shoulder.

“May I invite someone?” I ask.

“Sure, but who?” she asks.

“Over there by that nurse,” I point.

She looks…gently squeezes my hand and tells me, “Sweetie, those are our reflections
in the mirrored wall.”

My confusion happens a lot they say. Memories slip away, mercifully
forgotten before they’re missed, but right now, in this singular
moment, I take solace that I still remember me.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Ohh! … I thought, how kind he was, to invite his friend over, and then suddenly how sad, the realisation. Beautifully written.
