Why haven’t I read To Kill a Mockingbird or any other great American literature in school? I had been wondering about it for some time.
Now, while reading If I stay by Gayle Forman, it dawned on me. It is so obvious. I didn’t live in America. I lived in Ukraine. When teenage American minds were pondering on justice and goodness, I was a world away. I was reading and wondering about great Ukrainian literature.
I only get to read Harper Lee now, because when I was in school I had no idea that writer and that great American classic existed.
