After my job was handed to a robot arm, my mortgage payment became more than I could swing. Mary packed the Camry and loaded the kids. Because of my newly trashed credit rating, no landlord would lease to us. So, we parked at Walmart.
Jacob gets lunch at kindergarten, but Dani is too young for school. Mary landed a part-time job at Dollar Tree, and I now work at a liquor store, yet we still struggle to keep us fed.
I played by their rules, but the game is rigged. I’m not lazy. I’m not homeless. I was fucked by capitalism.
So true
A game no one should lose simply by playing by the rules.
Excellent write. It’s sadly spot on and so realistic.
You show the dismal picture well.
Painful to read because it’s so real. In 101 words you brought the message.
