I live in smoke.
It masks my face, my words, and my existence.
It covers all the ugly parts, and the pretty parts too.
At least that’s what people say. “You’re too pretty to be smoking,” or, “Don’t you want your lungs?”
But they don’t know that my lungs are already goners.
They’re burnt.
Damaged even before the smoke.
Anger has already tarred my throat and lungs, like road workers pouring asphalt.
My throat is stained with different prisms, diverse colors, set down by assorted people.
It is my camouflage; I blend into my surroundings.
Inhale,
Exhale,
Inhale,
Cough,
Exhale,
Cough.
Great choice of words, pacing, message… I liked it loads!
Lots of smart juxtapositions! Ugly/pretty, wellness/illness, inhale/exhale. Keep writing, Seth!
Like it, anger more damaging than smoking.
I like it!
I like it!!
Yes, indeed. And I LIKE IT, TOO!
