With a heart full of adventure, she decided to go on a journey to the hole behind the couch. Who knew what was behind it? A passageway to Narnia, or a talking rat?
Tugging on one leg of the couch with both of her hands, Sammy let out a grunt as her tiny legs buckled from the pressure. She dusted her knees and stood up to gaze at her handiwork.
To her pleasure, she could see that the couch had been distanced from the wall. Sammy peered inside the gap that she’d created, only to see a cluster of black-headed bugs.
And what sort of animal was Sammy? We can only speculate!
Emily, I liked the story overall because you directed the mind to the visuals of Narnia or rats. I would have liked the ending to include a little emotion by adding something like – “…created, but disappointed to only see a cluster…..”
Reminds me of checking inside a wardrobe as a kid – worth the shot! I love “She dusted her knees and stood up to gaze at her handiwork” as well as the hard dose of reality at the end.
