Impossible?

April 23, 2025 3 Comments

By Jon Dixon

Meriva lay on her belly, chill creeping through her leather tunic, steel clicking coldly between her teeth. She shifted her jaw a fraction, adjusting pressure on the torsion wrench. A small, sharp jar against her tongue from the pick.

She exhaled slowly. Another pin set.

She wasn’t fast, not like before. But precision and patience remained. A fraction more tension and a slight curl of her tongue. Another click.

Not helpless. Not lesser. Still Meriva.

She spat her tools into a pocket, wriggled forward, chinned open the chest, and stared.

The rubies shone like triumph.

Of all impossibilities. A limbless thief.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
