Impressing Claire

Impressing Claire

By Jonathan Shipley

What was I thinking? I mean WHAT THE HELL?! Joining a book club just to impress Claire was a stupid idea. I mean, dumb. Shit, man, the first book they’re having us read? Moby Dick. Moby, god damn, Dick. What about, I don’t know, something under 1.3 million pages?

And, the thing is, SHE’S INTO IT! She’s talking about whale blubber at dinner as if it’s a conversation topic. Right before we make love she puts her hand in my pants and says, “Call me Ishmael.” I’m not even sure what she’s referring to!

I’m going to dump her on Tuesday.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
