Imprisoned

After twenty free years, compassion for another had led to Jodi’s capture. Sweat rolled down her face as she shaped the glowing metal. Dipping it into the cool water, she struggled with the object’s weight.  Steam rose, mixing with sweat and tears.  She glared at her captor with intense defiance.

Dalton took the metal band from her hands and snapped it around her neck.  Picking up the attached chain, he led her out into the sunlight.

“How much can I get for this fine young woman?” he called to the crowd. “She can cook, work in the fields, tend the animals…”
