Incorrect Language

August 4, 2023 6 Comments

By Ronald M. Larsen

“I dunno, but I get a spooky feeling about this one.”

“Relax, Roy. It’s not like correcting somebody is a big deal.”

“Yeah, what about Frank disappearing in this neighborhood last week?”

“Hey, we just have to do our job.” Charlie rang the doorbell of the old three-story home.

When a man answered, Charlie gave the standard spiel. “Sir, we are here from the Department of Language Correction to notify you of your current infractions.” With that, he handed the man a list.

Glancing over the list, the fellow called back over his shoulder, “Helen, you misspelled disemboweled again this week.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I enjoyed this story. I am amused at the whole idea of the government sending people out to correct language.

Vert amusing. My mind is racing, thinking about the contexts in which Helen might have used that word.

Funny story. Have you noticed the government is already correcting our use of pronouns.
