“A day that will live in infamy,” the shocked newscaster blurted. A split screen revealed a harbor, ships sinking and burning; sailors jumping overboard. A thick pall of smoke rose from ruptured fuel tanks ashore.
“This was part of a coordinated attack on airbases and other military facilities. Civilians are urged to stay in place. Reservists, muster at your local armory.”
He looked at a note handed to him. “We have reports of American tanks and soldiers crossing the border. There are reports of explosions in Toronto.”
The newscaster looked to his left and exclaimed, “What the—”
The channel went dead.
Sadly credible.
Chillingly possible.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this.
