Isn’t It Romantic

June 12, 2026 4 Comments

By Parker Davis

On the corner of 4th and Belmont, a grungy stairwell wedged between a Chinese noodle shop and a Vietnamese laundromat. Salty broth with off-brand floral detergent.

The fixer is shirtless beneath his trench coat. A sweatband hugging his balding head like a crusty halo.

“What’s the hit?” He snaps his grubby fingers, and I pass my phone. He swipes a series of Tinder photos.

“Natalie,” I say. “She’s the one.”

“We got ourselves a Casanova.” A grin with gold-capped teeth. “Smell that?” He unpacks a crossbow, a wicked, heart-shaped arrowhead. Unfurls his pair of greasy wings. “Love is in the air.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Cupid as a fixer. Love it! The song “Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places” came to mind.

    Good job!
