Georgia Rose walked down the red clay road that led from her daddy’s trailer to the bait shop on the east side of the river and kicked the rusty circle of ancient hubcap she’d been rolling along high up into the air as old Mr Porter, who had just finished his cold Pepsi, stood from the weathered wooden bench to stretch, placing his wrinkled ear directly into the path of Georgia’s dented projectile, fulfilling his grandmother’s prophecy from sixty-two years and three months earlier, that the old Chevy he had loved so dearly would one day be the death of him.
