“Stop moving,” he whispered.
Her legs shook as she struggled to keep still. Before them stood a brutish figure sniffing at the dense cave air. Despite the darkness, they could see its muscular back facing them in ignorance.
“We. Need. To. Run.” she said, breathing each word while backing away. The beast disregarded the sound, clawing aimlessly at the ground.
“It might sense movement,” he said. “Just hold tight.”
The creature turned, its hair on end, and stared directly at them through the dark.
“Perhaps I sense movement and speak English,” it snarled, bright yellow teeth shining out of the black.
