Jamalu

May 23, 2026 Leave a Comment

By Giulietta Nardone

Pema and Arthur hiked down the waterfall trail leading from Jamalu, a remote village.

They stopped to embrace. “I love you,” Arthur said, his eyes feasting on her exotic beauty. He wanted to take her back to Canada, get married, and start a family.

At the next cascade, his face registered confusion. Pema’s voluptuous body had become thin, stooped, and wrinkled.

“Pema, I don’t understand.”

“I’m sorry. The clerics warned me rapid aging would happen,” she said, picking up a long stick to help herself walk. “Foolish me believed in the power of hopeful thinking. I need to return to Jamalu.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
