I only saw him last weekend. We walked in the New Forest.
“Isn’t this lovely?” he kept saying. “I wonder if we’ll see horses… Do you remember when we picked blackberries here?”
It all seemed so trivial. We were just chatting. But I guess I missed what he was actually saying.
He really needed our day out; he’d needed a friend. He was forcing himself to be in the moment. Be present.
I didn’t realise; I was aloof.
I was in a meeting when I got the call. I had to find out on voicemail.
I only saw him last weekend.
