“Jay came to visit me last night.”
I smile at Emily as I braid her hair. Jay’s her imaginary friend. He appears when she’s scared or worried. He’s been showing up a lot since we moved across the country, away from her father.
“He told me I’m pretty. He told me to leave the window open.”
I frown. “Why?”
“To get in my room. Silly Mommy.”
I sit in the dark yard, waiting. Soft light glows from Emily’s room. I watch, frozen with horror, as Jack, my neighbor’s son, climbs over the fence and up the drainpipe to her open window.
Nice!! Puts a smile and a thought at the end
Jay might be imaginary, but Jack seems real enough!
Well, that one gave me chills. Totally unexpected ending. Nicely done!
Great ending
