Amy spotted me hiding behind the anti-virus stand. She waved and came over. We talked about the last six months, about her travelling with a new friend. She acted so cavalier the whole time, like our brief engagement never happened.
Her manager walked by and stared at us disapprovingly.
“And here is our latest model,” said Amy, gesturing at the most expensive product available. I willingly played along, the role of just a customer.
She smiled.
Later that afternoon, I unpacked my new computer. It was beautiful and could do anything I possibly dreamed of.
The sensation was all too familiar.
