The new-age woman sits in the park, chanting.
A group of tie-dyed followers watch her channel Mah-noo-tah-lah, a 10,000-year-old spirit. The rucksack beside her, marked ‘Love Offerings,’ is full of money.
Across the park, a fire-and-brimstone preacher shouts, “Hark unto the words of the one true God!” A wooden box, marked ‘Love Offerings,’ overflows.
Later, the woman and the preacher sit in a plush hotel room with a pile of notes between them. The preacher pushes some toward her.
“Yours,” he says, before drawing the rest toward himself, “and mine.”
They clink champagne glasses. They laugh. They toast.
“To true enlightenment.”
Very clever but are you cynical about those making the money or those giving it away?
Mostly those making it, but I guess a little bit of both. Thanks for reading!
You’ve nailed the essence of one of the oldest scams known to mankind. This one is a Winner.
