My dad always loved Halloween. He said it was the sense of community, but I knew that it was because he loved scaring people.
When I was younger, I saw the maniacal grin that spread across his face when he made children scream in fright.
As I got older, children stopped scaring so easily, and instead started laughing. I knew this wounded him, but he refused to speak of it.
Then, one year, that terrifying grin returned—he planned something special but refused to tell me anything.
I found out with the rest of the children. I still have the scars.
This is REALLY scary. A perfect pre-Halloween story!
